THE BRIEF

Persol required an elegant and memorable gift for guests attending its New York flagship opening.

The piece needed to feel unmistakably premium, complement the visual identity of the brand and offer something guests would genuinely want to keep beyond the event.

Rather than conventional promotional merchandise, the objective was to create a beautifully made object with its own presence — subtle in its branding, practical in use and appropriate for a luxury retail environment.

CREATIVE DIRECTION

The creative direction focused on restraint, craftsmanship and timelessness.

A refined off-white palette was paired with natural wood, allowing the Persol identity to remain prominent without overwhelming the design.

Particular attention was given to the finish of the wooden ribs. Rather than covering the natural material with an opaque painted finish, we recommended preserving the warmth and character of the wood.

The result was a fan that felt tactile, authentic and quietly luxurious.

ORIGINAL DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

Every element was developed specifically for the Persol project.

From proportion and colour to materials, logo placement and finishing, the design was refined to create a cohesive piece that reflected the understated elegance associated with the brand.

The Persol identity was incorporated directly into the fan design, creating a recognisable branded object without relying on conventional promotional-gift aesthetics.

RAPID SAMPLE DEVELOPMENT

Timing was one of the defining challenges of the project.

Within 24 hours, the first bespoke concepts were presented.

In less than nine hours, handcrafted prototypes were produced, allowing the client to evaluate the materials, finishes and overall aesthetic immediately.

Following approval, full artisan production began, with each fan individually assembled, inspected and finished by hand.

The collection was completed in approximately two weeks and subsequently shipped

For the opening of Persol’s new flagship store in New York, Island Whisper Atelier was commissioned to create a bespoke collection of handcrafted hand fans designed specifically for the occasion.

The project brought together Italian luxury heritage, traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design — transforming the hand fan into a distinctive gift created for one of the brand’s most important retail moments.
