The Challenge
Harry & Izzy's was preparing to open its very first location outside Indiana, bringing nearly two decades of Midwest hospitality to Fenix at PV in Paradise Valley. For a brand rooted in tradition, refined dining and genuine hospitality, the opening called for a keepsake that felt as elevated as the experience itself — something guests would associate with celebration, elegance and the sophistication the Harry & Izzy's name represents.
The objective was to create a bespoke luxury gift that reflected the brand's identity precisely, from its signature colours to the understated elegance of its dining room, while giving guests something meaningful to take home from opening night.
Our Creative Approach
Island Whisper Atelier designed an exclusive hand fan collection built entirely around Harry & Izzy's brand world.
Every fan was finished in a rich navy blue, hand-painted directly onto the wood to match the brand's tones precisely — the same refined, classic palette found throughout the restaurant's identity.
The signature detail of the collection was the fan's edge: a delicate border of bow ties, hand-painted in gold acrylic, echoing the polish and old-world hospitality of a fine American steakhouse. The bow tie motif became a quiet nod to the tradition, service and celebratory spirit at the heart of the Harry & Izzy's experience.
Every brushstroke — from the navy base to the gold detailing — was painted entirely by hand, ensuring each fan felt like a genuine, one-of-a-kind piece rather than a mass-produced promotional item.
Special attention was given to the fan's wooden guard, the sturdy outer stick that protects and frames the fan. Each guard was hand-painted in the same deep navy blue as the ribs, creating a seamless, cohesive finish from the fabric to the wood. The Harry & Izzy's logo was then engraved directly into the wood and finished in gold, giving the guard a refined, tactile detail that catches the light and reinforces the brand every time the fan is opened or closed. The result is a piece that feels considered down to the smallest element — wood, paint and engraving working together as one continuous expression of the brand.
The Final Collection
The bespoke collection included:
Hand-painted wooden fans in Harry & Izzy's signature navy blue
A hand-painted gold acrylic bow tie border along the fan's edge
Premium handcrafted wood and artisan finishing
Luxury presentation designed for a grand opening audience
A keepsake created exclusively to mark Harry & Izzy's arrival in Arizona
Guest Experience
For guests attending the opening at Fenix, PV, the hand fans became an elegant extension of the evening itself — a tactile, wearable piece of the brand's identity rather than a simple giveaway.
The navy and gold palette, paired with the bow tie detailing, immediately signalled the same refinement guests were experiencing inside the restaurant. It became a conversation piece on opening night and a memento guests could keep long after the celebration, carrying a piece of Harry & Izzy's hospitality home with them.
The Result
The collection helped mark a significant milestone for Huse Culinary: Harry & Izzy's first expansion beyond Indiana. By translating the brand's colours and character into an original, hand-painted luxury object, Island Whisper Atelier helped turn a grand opening into a lasting sensory memory for every guest in attendance.
The fans became small ambassadors for the brand — elegant, recognisable and true to Harry & Izzy's identity — extending the opening night experience well beyond the event itself.
Colour & Inspiration Reference
For this project, the design direction was translated into a working colour palette to guide the hand-painting process:
Navy blue — approx. Pantone 533 C / #0A1F44 — used for the hand-painted wood base, matching the restaurant's signature deep, classic tones.
Gold acrylic — approx. Pantone 872 C / #C6A15B — used for the hand-painted bow tie border along the fan's edge.
Warm cream — approx. Pantone 7527 C / #F3EEE3 — optional neutral accent.
Dark walnut — approx. Pantone 4625 C / #3B2A1E — reference tone for the wood grain.
Note: these Pantone references are proposed working colours based on Harry & Izzy's known visual identity (dark woods, deep colour palette). They should be confirmed or adjusted once the client shares official brand assets — logo files, brand guidelines, or physical bow tie samples — to ensure an exact match before production.

How does the design process start for a new collection?
Every project begins with a conversation about your brand — colours, story and the feeling you want guests to take away. From there, we often build a visual inspiration board before a single brushstroke is painted, so the direction is agreed before production begins.
What's the difference between a painted fabric fan and a hand-painted wooden fan?
Fabric fans showcase original watercolour artwork across the pleated panel, while hand-painted wood collections extend the design onto the guard and ribs themselves. Many of our bespoke projects combine both, so the artwork and the wood tell the same story.
Can the fan's edge be finished in a specific colour or detail?
Yes. The outer edge of the fan can be hand-finished in gold, silver or a custom colour, often used to frame the artwork or introduce a secondary brand tone, as a subtle but distinctive detail guests notice up close.
How do you decide which motifs or symbols to include in a design?
We look for a detail within the brand's world that carries real meaning — an architectural feature, a pattern, a symbol tied to its history or identity — and translate it into an artistic motif rather than using it literally, so the piece feels elegant and original.
Do you offer custom packaging for guest gifting?
Yes. Every collection can be paired with bespoke presentation — from ribbon and tissue to fully branded boxes — so the gifting moment feels as considered as the fan itself, from first impression to unwrapping.
How should guests care for a handcrafted hand fan?
Our fans are made to be used and enjoyed, not simply displayed. We recommend opening and closing gently along the natural fold, keeping them away from prolonged direct sunlight or moisture, and storing them flat when not in use to preserve the artwork and finish.
Can a project include both a signature collection and a limited opening-night edition?
Yes. It's common to create a broader collection alongside a smaller, more exclusive edition reserved for a specific date or VIP group, so the piece feels tied to that particular moment rather than an ongoing product line.
How many rounds of design revisions are typically included?
We usually present an initial concept followed by refinements based on your feedback, continuing until the design feels fully aligned with your brand. Because communication happens directly with our founder, changes move quickly rather than through layers of approval.
Is every piece in a collection identical, or does hand-painting create natural variation?
Because each fan is painted by hand, small natural variations in brushstroke are part of the piece's character rather than a flaw. We maintain close colour and design consistency across a collection while preserving that handcrafted, one-of-a-kind quality.
Can Island Whisper help translate an inspiration board into a final concept?
Yes, this is often where a project truly begins. Clients frequently share moodboards, fabric swatches or brand references, and our role is to interpret that direction into an original watercolour design that feels authentic to the brand rather than a literal copy.
